Digital Learning

In the video Vision of K-12 Students Today it discusses digital learning. It emphasizes the fact that the students are digital learners and learn by doing, however the teachers do not know how to use digital technology to incorporate digital learning.

Do you think digital learning is a good idea? why or why not?

If students are digital learners how come most teachers do not incorporate it into their classrooms?
Would you, as a teacher, use digital learning in your classroom?

  1. I think digital learning could definitely be a good idea, especially if that is the best way our students today learn. It is good to cater to their needs, and give them the best possible learning experience. I really liked the part in the video where it said, "If we learn by doing, what are we doing sitting here?" I thought this was a really good point. If we have students that learn by doing, than making them work quietly at their desks will probably not teach them much. I think hands on experiences are very good for learning, especially in todays society.
I think most teachers don't use digital learning because they don't know how. It is difficult to learn a whole new system, just to teach something that you already have a way of teaching without it. I would definitely like to try to use some digital learning. I would be willing to learn some of the new technology that is out there because it is a very helpful tool when teaching.

  2. I think that the majorit yof teacher do not use technology in thier classroom because they are not comfortabel with the same things their students can do. They do not know how to work certain things and do not want to look bad in front of their students so they do not use this media in the classroom. I think it is very important to use technology especially in the day and age we are in. We all communicate and learn through means of the internet and email and it is important to incorporate this into the classroom. We want to encourage studnets to do good and if they know how to use things such as blogs and email we need to take advantage of that and encourage this type of learning and growth.

  3. I think there should be classes installed for teachers to learn more about our growing technology. With the digital age that we live in, I think it is inevitable that students will be forced to use digital media of some sort. This is why we need to have classes for students and teachers that help them become more digitally savy.

  4. Digital Learning is a great idea, however I feel that most teachers do not incorportate that type of learning into their classrooms because they are unfamiliar with that teaching approach! A simple teacher inservice could do wonders for many teachers and their classrooms, because as we all know, integrating technology is not very hard, with a little practice!

  5. It's important as teachers to keep up with changing technology, especially when the students are. Teachers need to be educated constantly when it comes to new technology and how to successfully integrate this into their classrooms, and I think this is the hold up. It is also hard to manage a classroom with this learning approach. So if schools and teachers can put in this extra effort so that students can use what they're familiar with for their education, then I think we will see huge benefits that will only grow with the changing times.

  6. I think that digital or computer- based learning is a great way to engage students and give them the hands-on experience they need to grasp the information and concepts we teach them. I agree that the biggest reason teachers do not incorporate technology into their lessons is that they don't know how. And even if teachers are comfortable using technology themselves, they often don't want to spend the extra time integrating it into their lessons, or do not think that students will stay on task or learn the concepts as well. I will definitely try to integrate technology into my lessons whenever possible. As our society becomes increasingly more reliant on technology, I think it is crucial for us to prepare our students to use technology in their everyday lives, especially for students who do not have access to a computer at home.
